Letrozole 2.5mg is mainly used to treat hormone receptor positive breast cancer in women who have gone through menopause, and is also commonly used off-label to help with ovulation problems in women trying to conceive.

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Treatment of hormone-receptor positive breast cancer in postmenopausal women
• As adjuvant (after surgery) or extended treatment to lower the chance of cancer coming back
• Treatment of advanced breast cancer
• Off-label use for inducing ovulation in women with irregular ovulation or unexplained infertility

HOW IT WORKS

• Blocks an enzyme called aromatase that converts androgens into estrogen
• Lowers estrogen levels in the body, which slows or stops growth of estrogen-dependent cancer cells
• Lower estrogen levels can trigger the pituitary gland to increase hormones that stimulate ovulation

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• Not used for breast cancer in men or premenopausal women unless specifically advised
• Not a contraceptive and does not prevent pregnancy

HOW TO TAKE IT
