Chlordiazepoxide (10mg) belongs to a group of medicines called benzodiazepines. It is prescribed to relieve anxiety and to manage symptoms occurring during alcohol withdrawal.

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Short-term relief of anxiety and tension
• Management of acute alcohol withdrawal symptoms such as tremors and agitation
• Sometimes used before certain procedures to reduce anxiety, as advised by the doctor

HOW IT WORKS

• It enhances the activity of a calming brain chemical called GABA
• This slows down excess nerve activity, reducing anxiety, tension and restlessness
• It also has muscle-relaxant and mild sedative effects

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• Not used for treating everyday stress that does not need medical treatment
• Not a painkiller and does not treat physical pain
• Not used for long-term or routine sleep problems
• Not a treatment for depression or psychotic illness

COMMON SIDE EFFECTS

• Drowsiness or sleepiness

How to Use LIBRIUM 10MG TABLET (CHLORDIAZEPOXIDE (10MG))

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Take this medicine exactly as prescribed by your doctor, in the dose and frequency advised
• It can be taken with or without food, unless your doctor says otherwise
• Swallow the tablet with water; do not crush or chew unless instructed
• Do not increase the dose or take it for longer than prescribed
• Avoid alcohol while taking this medicine as it increases sedation
• Do not stop this medicine suddenly without consulting your doctor, as it may cause withdrawal symptoms

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• Take it as soon as you remember
• If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one
• Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one

STORAGE

• Store at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and moisture
• Keep out of reach of children
• Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU

• Are allergic to chlordiazepoxide or other benzodiazepines

• Have a history of drug or alcohol dependence, unless specifically prescribed for withdrawal management
• Are pregnant or breastfeeding, unless advised by your doctor

• Have a history of depression, mental illness or suicidal thoughts

• Have myasthenia gravis or other muscle disorders
