This medicine is used to treat type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults, usually when diet and exercise alone are not enough to control blood sugar.

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Controlling high blood sugar levels in type 2 diabetes
• Used alone or along with other diabetes medicines as advised by your doctor

HOW IT WORKS

• Linagliptin increases the levels of natural hormones that help the pancreas release insulin after meals

• Signs of lactic acidosis such as severe weakness, muscle pain, trouble breathing, stomach pain, or feeling very cold
• Signs of low blood sugar such as sweating, shakiness, confusion, or fainting
• Severe stomach pain that may spread to the back, which could indicate pancreatitis
• Yellowing of skin or eyes, or dark urine, suggesting liver problems
• Severe allergic reaction such as swelling of face/lips/throat, difficulty breathing, or severe skin rash

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Swallow the tablet whole with water; do not crush or chew it
• Take it at the same time each day to help you remember

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU

• Have a serious infection, dehydration, or are about to undergo surgery or a contrast dye scan
