Uses and Benefits of LINAPIL TABLET (Linagliptin 5mg)
Linagliptin 5mg is prescribed to manage high blood sugar levels in people with type 2 diabetes mellitus.
WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR
- Controlling blood sugar levels in type 2 diabetes
- Used alone or along with other diabetes medicines like metformin or sulfonylureas
- Helps improve blood sugar control alongside diet and exercise
HOW IT WORKS
- It blocks an enzyme called DPP-4 which breaks down incretin hormones
- This increases insulin release after meals when blood sugar is high
- It also reduces the amount of sugar produced by the liver
WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR
- Not used for type 1 diabetes
- Not used for diabetic ketoacidosis, a serious emergency condition
- Not a substitute for insulin in patients who need insulin therapy
- Not meant for weight loss purposes

COMMON SIDE EFFECTS
- Runny or stuffy nose
- Sore throat
- Mild headache
- Cough
LESS COMMON SIDE EFFECTS
- Diarrhea or upset stomach
- Muscle or joint pain
- Weight changes
- Skin rash
SERIOUS SIDE EFFECTS — STOP AND SEE A DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY
- Severe stomach pain that spreads to the back, with or without vomiting (possible sign of pancreatitis)
- Signs of allergic reaction such as swelling of face, lips, tongue, throat, or difficulty breathing
- Severe skin peeling, blistering, or widespread rash
- Symptoms of low blood sugar such as sweating, shakiness, confusion, or fainting when combined with other diabetes medicines
- Joint pain that is severe and persistent

How to Use LINAPIL TABLET (Linagliptin 5mg)
HOW TO TAKE IT
- Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually once a day
- Can be taken with or without food
- Try to take it at the same time every day to build a routine
- Swallow the tablet whole with water; do not crush or chew unless advised
- Continue taking it regularly even if you feel well, since diabetes needs long-term control
IF YOU MISS A DOSE
- Take the missed dose as soon as you remember on the same day
- If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one and continue as usual
- Do not take two doses together to make up for a missed one
STORAGE
- Store at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and moisture
- Keep the tablet in its original strip until ready to use
- Keep out of reach of children and pets
- Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU
- Are allergic to linagliptin or any of its ingredients
- Have type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis
TELL YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE STARTING IF YOU
- Have a history of pancreatitis
- Have liver disease
- Have a history of severe allergic reactions to DPP-4 inhibitors
- Are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding
- Are taking other diabetes medicines, especially insulin or sulfonylureas
MEDICINES THAT CAN INTERACT
- Sulfonylureas or insulin, as combined use can raise the risk of low blood sugar
- Rifampicin and certain other enzyme-inducing medicines, which may reduce its effect
- Other medicines for diabetes; always inform your doctor about all medicines you take
