Uses and Benefits of LOTENSYL 20MG TABLET (LERCANIDIPINE HCL)

Lercanidipine HCl is mainly prescribed to control high blood pressure.

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Treating high blood pressure (hypertension)
• Long-term control of blood pressure to reduce risk of heart attack, stroke and kidney problems
• Sometimes used along with other blood pressure medicines for better control

HOW IT WORKS

• It belongs to a group of medicines called calcium channel blockers
• It relaxes and widens the blood vessels by blocking calcium entry into vessel wall muscles
• This reduces the resistance in blood vessels, lowering blood pressure and easing the workload on the heart

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• It is not a painkiller and does not treat headaches directly
• It is not used for sudden hypertensive emergencies needing immediate blood pressure lowering
• It does not treat infections, diabetes or cholesterol problems
• It is not a substitute for lifestyle changes like low-salt diet, exercise and weight control

COMMON SIDE EFFECTS

• Headache

• Muscle pain
• Skin rash
• Increased need to urinate

• Fainting or severe dizziness
• Chest pain or tightness
• Very fast or irregular heartbeat
• Severe swelling of face, lips or throat with difficulty breathing (allergic reaction)
• Yellowing of skin or eyes (signs of liver problems)

How to Use LOTENSYL 20MG TABLET (LERCANIDIPINE HCL)

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually once a day
• Take at the same time every day, preferably before food, as directed
• Swallow the tablet with water; do not crush or chew unless your doctor says so
• Avoid taking with grapefruit or grapefruit juice as it can increase side effects
• Continue taking even if you feel well, since blood pressure control needs regular use
• Do not stop suddenly without talking to your doctor

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• Take it as soon as you remember on the same day
• If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one
• Do not take two doses together to make up for a missed one
• If you miss doses often, tell your doctor

STORAGE

• Store at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and moisture
• Keep out of reach of children
• Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack
• Keep in the original blister pack until it is time to take it

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU

• Are allergic to lercanidipine or other calcium channel blockers
• Have severe liver disease
• Have severe kidney disease requiring dialysis
• Have uncontrolled heart failure
• Have unstable angina or recent heart attack within one month

TELL YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE STARTING IF YOU

• Are pregnant or planning pregnancy
• Are breastfeeding
• Have any heart rhythm problems
• Have mild to moderate liver or kidney disease

• Cyclosporine and certain HIV medicines
• Beta blockers or digoxin
