Pyrazinamide is used for the treatment of active tuberculosis (TB), a bacterial infection that most commonly affects the lungs.

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Treating active pulmonary and certain extra-pulmonary tuberculosis
• Used in combination with other anti-TB drugs during the initial intensive phase of treatment
• Helps shorten the total duration of TB treatment when combined with other drugs

HOW IT WORKS

• It is converted inside the TB bacteria into an active form that kills the bacteria
• Works best in the acidic environment found inside infected tissues, such as in lung cavities
• Helps kill slow-growing and dormant bacteria that other TB drugs may not fully eliminate

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• Not used for viral infections like cold or flu

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually once daily

• Swallow the tablet with water; do not crush or chew unless advised
• Take at the same time each day to help you remember
• Continue taking the full course even if you start feeling better — stopping early can lead to drug-resistant TB
