Magnesium Valproate is mainly used to treat epilepsy (seizure disorders) and certain mood-related conditions.

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• To control and prevent different types of seizures (fits) in epilepsy
• To help manage manic episodes in bipolar disorder
• Sometimes used to help prevent migraine headaches

HOW IT WORKS

• It increases the calming activity of a brain chemical called GABA
• It helps stabilise abnormal electrical activity in the brain that causes seizures
• This reduces the frequency and severity of seizures or mood swings

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• It is not a painkiller and does not treat headache on its own
• It is not used for treating infections
• It is not meant for occasional or as-needed use; it must be taken regularly as advised

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Do not stop suddenly without consulting your doctor, as this can trigger seizures

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one
