Uses and Benefits of MEFTAL 250MG TABLET (Mefenamic Acid 250mg)

Mefenamic Acid 250mg is used mainly to treat pain and inflammation associated with several common conditions.

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Menstrual cramps (period pain)
• Headache and toothache
• Muscle and joint pain
• Pain after minor surgery or injury
• Fever associated with pain
• Pain related to arthritis in some cases

HOW IT WORKS

• It blocks enzymes called cyclo-oxygenase (COX) that produce prostaglandins
• Prostaglandins cause pain, swelling and fever
• By reducing prostaglandin production, it lowers pain, inflammation and temperature

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• It is not used to treat infections such as bacterial or viral illness
• It does not cure the underlying cause of pain, only relieves symptoms
• It is not a first-choice medicine for long-term daily pain control without medical supervision
• It is not recommended for chronic use without regular doctor check-ups due to stomach and kidney risks
• It should not be used as a substitute for other prescribed heart or blood pressure medicines

• Yellowing of skin or eyes (jaundice)
• Sudden reduced urination or swelling of legs (kidney problem)
• Difficulty breathing, swelling of face or throat (allergic reaction)
• Severe skin rash with blistering or peeling
• Seizures or fits (rare but reported)
• Chest pain or signs of stroke such as slurred speech, weakness on one side

How to Use MEFTAL 250MG TABLET (Mefenamic Acid 250mg)

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, in terms of dose and duration
• Swallow the tablet with water, preferably after food to reduce stomach upset
• Do not crush or chew unless your doctor or pharmacist says it is safe to do so
• Do not take for longer than advised, especially without medical supervision
• Avoid taking on an empty stomach

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• Take it as soon as you remember if it is close to the scheduled time
• If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one and continue as normal
• Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one
• If pain is being managed on an as-needed basis, only take when required, following your doctor's instructions

• Store at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and moisture
• Keep in the original packaging until use
• Keep out of reach of children
• Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU

• Are allergic to mefenamic acid or other NSAIDs like aspirin or ibuprofen
• Have active stomach or intestinal ulcers or bleeding
• Have severe kidney or liver disease
• Have severe heart failure
• Are in the last trimester of pregnancy
