Mesalamine 800mg is mainly used to treat inflammatory bowel disease, particularly ulcerative colitis.

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Treating active mild to moderate ulcerative colitis
• Maintaining remission (preventing flare-ups) in ulcerative colitis
• Reducing inflammation in the large intestine (colon) and rectum

HOW IT WORKS

• Mesalamine acts locally on the intestinal lining to reduce inflammation
• It blocks chemical substances in the body that cause swelling and irritation in the gut
• This helps reduce symptoms like diarrhoea, abdominal pain and rectal bleeding

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• It is not used for infectious diarrhoea caused by bacteria or viruses
• It is not a painkiller for general stomach pain unrelated to bowel inflammation

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually with food
• Swallow the tablet whole with water; do not crush or chew unless your doctor says it is safe to do so
• Take at the same time(s) each day to maintain steady effect
• Continue the full course even if you feel better, unless your doctor advises otherwise
• Do not stop suddenly without consulting your doctor, as symptoms may return

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• Take the missed dose as soon as you remember
• If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one and continue your normal schedule
• Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one

STORAGE

• Store at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and moisture
• Keep out of reach of children
• Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack
