Uses and Benefits of MIDOTAB 5MG TABLET (MIDODRINE 5MG)

Midodrine is mainly used to treat symptomatic low blood pressure on standing, a condition called orthostatic hypotension, which can cause dizziness, blurred vision, weakness, or fainting when a person stands up.

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Treating orthostatic (postural) hypotension
• Reducing dizziness, lightheadedness or fainting spells caused by sudden drops in blood pressure on standing
• Improving ability to stand and carry out daily activities in people with chronic low blood pressure

HOW IT WORKS

• It acts on blood vessels to make them narrower (vasoconstriction)
• This raises blood pressure, especially when a person changes position from lying/sitting to standing
• The effect is temporary and lasts only for a few hours after each dose

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• It is not used for general low blood pressure without symptoms
• It is not a treatment for high blood pressure or heart disease
• It is not meant for long-term use without regular doctor review
• It should not be used to treat fainting from other causes without medical evaluation

COMMON SIDE EFFECTS

How to Use MIDOTAB 5MG TABLET (MIDODRINE 5MG)

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually during daytime hours when you are upright and active
• Avoid taking it close to bedtime as it can raise blood pressure while lying down
• Swallow the tablet with water; it can be taken with or without food
• Do not increase or decrease the dose on your own
• Monitor your blood pressure regularly as advised by your doctor

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• Take it as soon as you remember, but skip it if it is close to your bedtime
• Do not double the dose to make up for a missed one
• If you miss doses often, inform your doctor

STORAGE

• Store at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and moisture
• Keep out of reach of children
• Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack
• Dispose of unused medicine safely, do not flush down the drain

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU

• Have severe heart disease or persistent high blood pressure
• Have acute kidney disease
• Have a blockage in the urinary tract
• Have pheochromocytoma (a tumour of the adrenal gland)
• Are allergic to midodrine or any of its ingredients
