Uses and Benefits of MONLEVO TABLET (MONTELUKAST 10MG + LEVOCETIRIZINE DIHYDROCHLORIDE 5MG)

This combination medicine is mainly used to treat allergic rhinitis, especially in people who also have mild asthma or seasonal allergy symptoms.

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Relief of sneezing, runny nose, itching and nasal congestion due to allergies
• Seasonal and year-round (perennial) allergic rhinitis
• Add-on relief of allergy symptoms in people with asthma

HOW IT WORKS

• Montelukast blocks leukotrienes, chemicals that cause airway swelling and mucus
• Levocetirizine blocks histamine, a chemical that causes itching, sneezing and watery eyes
• Together they reduce both nasal and airway allergic symptoms

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• Not for treating a sudden asthma attack or breathing emergency
• Not a cure for asthma or allergies, only controls symptoms
• Not meant for common cold or bacterial sinus infections
• Not for use as a sleep aid, despite some drowsiness effect

COMMON SIDE EFFECTS

• Drowsiness or sleepiness
• Headache
• Dry mouth

• Dizziness
• Nausea
• Sore throat
• Mild skin rash
• Restlessness or difficulty sleeping

SERIOUS SIDE EFFECTS — STOP AND SEE A DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY

• Signs of allergic reaction: swelling of face/lips/tongue, difficulty breathing, severe rash
• Mood or behaviour changes such as agitation, anxiety, depression, or suicidal thoughts
• Yellowing of skin or eyes (signs of liver problems)
• Irregular heartbeat or palpitations
• Severe drowsiness affecting daily activities

How to Use MONLEVO TABLET (MONTELUKAST 10MG + LEVOCETIRIZINE DIHYDROCHLORIDE 5MG)

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually once daily in the evening
• Can be taken with or without food
• Swallow the tablet whole with water; do not crush or chew unless your doctor says it is a chewable form
• Take it at the same time each day for best effect
• Continue taking it regularly even if you feel better, unless told to stop

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• Take it as soon as you remember the same day
• If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one
• Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one

STORAGE

• Store at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and moisture
• Keep in the original pack until ready to use
• Keep out of reach and sight of children
• Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU

• Are allergic to montelukast, levocetirizine, cetirizine or hydroxyzine
• Are a child below the age recommended by the doctor for this combination
• Have severe kidney disease without medical supervision

TELL YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE STARTING IF YOU

• Have liver or kidney disease
• Have a history of mental health issues, mood changes, or seizures
• Are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding
• Are taking other sedating medicines or alcohol regularly
• Have phenylketonuria or other rare metabolic conditions

MEDICINES THAT CAN INTERACT

• Other antihistamines or sedating cold/allergy medicines
• Sleep medicines, tranquilisers, or muscle relaxants
• Certain antibiotics or antifungal medicines affecting liver enzymes
• Alcohol, which can increase drowsiness
