Uses and Benefits of MONOTRATE SR 60MG TABLET (ISOSORBIDE MONONITRATE 60MG)

Isosorbide Mononitrate 60mg is mainly used to prevent episodes of angina (chest pain) in people with coronary artery disease.

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Prevention of angina attacks
• Long-term management of chronic stable angina
• Sometimes used to reduce workload on the heart in certain heart conditions, as advised by your doctor

HOW IT WORKS

• Relaxes and widens (dilates) blood vessels, including veins and arteries
• Increases blood and oxygen supply to the heart muscle
• Reduces the amount of work the heart needs to do, lowering oxygen demand

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• It does not relieve an angina attack that has already started (fast-acting nitrates are used for that)
• Not a treatment for heart attack itself, though it may be used afterwards as part of ongoing care

How to Use MONOTRATE SR 60MG TABLET (ISOSORBIDE MONONITRATE 60MG)

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually once daily
• Swallow the tablet whole with water; do not crush or chew unless your pharmacist says it is safe to do so
• Try to take it at the same time each day to maintain steady effect
• Take it with or without food, as advised by your doctor
• Do not stop taking it suddenly without consulting your doctor, as this can worsen angina

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• Take it as soon as you remember on the same day
• If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue your normal schedule
• Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one

STORAGE

• Store at room temperature, away from direct heat, light, and moisture
• Keep out of reach and sight of children

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU

• Are allergic to isosorbide mononitrate or other nitrates
• Are taking medicines for erectile dysfunction such as sildenafil, tadalafil, or vardenafil
• Have severe low blood pressure or are in shock
• Have severe anaemia
• Have increased pressure in the brain (raised intracranial pressure)

TELL YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE STARTING IF YOU

• Have low blood pressure or tend to feel dizzy on standing
• Have had a recent heart attack
• Have liver or kidney disease
• Have a heart condition called hypertrophic cardiomyopathy
• Are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding
• Consume alcohol regularly
