Uses and Benefits of MOX BD 400MG DISTAB TABLET (AMOXYCILLIN 400MG)

Amoxycillin 400mg is used to treat infections caused by bacteria that are sensitive to it.

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Respiratory tract infections such as sinusitis, tonsillitis and bronchitis
• Ear infections
• Urinary tract infections
• Skin and soft tissue infections
• Dental infections
• Some stomach infections when combined with other medicines

HOW IT WORKS

• Amoxycillin belongs to the penicillin group of antibiotics
• It stops bacteria from forming their protective cell wall
• Without a proper cell wall, the bacteria burst and die
• This helps clear the infection and relieve symptoms like fever and pain

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• It does not work against viral infections such as common cold or flu
• It is not effective for infections caused by bacteria resistant to penicillin
• It should not be used just to reduce fever without a bacterial cause
• It is not a painkiller and does not replace other necessary treatment

• Severe dizziness or fainting

How to Use MOX BD 400MG DISTAB TABLET (AMOXYCILLIN 400MG)

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor
• Can be taken with or without food, unless your doctor advises otherwise
• Swallow tablets or capsules with a glass of water
• If using syrup, shake well and use the measuring cup provided
• Complete the full course even if you feel better, unless told to stop by your doctor
• Try to take doses at evenly spaced times through the day

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• Take it as soon as you remember
• If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one
• Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one
• Continue your normal dosing schedule after that

STORAGE

• Store at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and moisture
• Keep reconstituted syrup in a refrigerator if advised, and discard after the recommended period
• Keep all medicines out of reach of children
• Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU

• Are allergic to amoxycillin, penicillin or related antibiotics
• Have had a severe allergic reaction to any beta-lactam antibiotic in the past

• Have a history of liver problems
• Have glandular fever (infectious mononucleosis)
• Have asthma or a history of allergies

MEDICINES THAT CAN INTERACT

• Methotrexate
• Blood thinners such as warfarin
• Allopurinol
• Oral contraceptive pills, as effectiveness may be reduced
• Probenecid
