This medicine is used to treat bacterial infections in different parts of the body.

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Respiratory tract infections such as sinusitis, bronchitis and pneumonia
• Ear, nose and throat infections
• Urinary tract infections
• Skin and soft tissue infections
• Dental infections and abscesses
• Some infections of bones and joints, as advised by your doctor

HOW IT WORKS

• Amoxycillin is a penicillin-type antibiotic that kills bacteria by stopping them from building their protective cell wall
• Some bacteria produce an enzyme called beta-lactamase that destroys amoxycillin
• Clavulanic acid blocks this enzyme, allowing amoxycillin to work effectively even against these resistant bacteria

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• Viral infections such as common cold, flu or most sore throats
• Fungal infections
• Prevention of infection unless specifically advised by a doctor before surgery or dental procedures
• Symptomatic relief only, such as fever or pain without an underlying bacterial cause

• Severe skin rash, blistering or peeling skin
• Swelling of face, lips, tongue or throat
• Difficulty breathing or wheezing
• Severe or persistent diarrhoea, especially with blood or mucus
• Yellowing of skin or eyes, dark urine, or severe stomach pain (signs of liver problems)
• Unusual bruising or bleeding

How to Use MOX CV DS SUSPENSION 457MG (AMOXYCILLIN 400MG + CLAVULANIC ACID 57MG)

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, in the dose and duration advised
• Swallow tablets whole with a glass of water; do not crush or chew unless your doctor says so
• It is best taken at the start of a meal to reduce stomach upset and improve absorption
• Try to take doses at evenly spaced times each day
• Complete the full course even if you feel better before finishing it, to prevent bacteria from becoming resistant

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• Take the missed dose as soon as you remember
• If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one and continue your normal schedule
• Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one

STORAGE

• Store at room temperature, away from direct heat, light and moisture
• Keep reconstituted liquid/syrup in the refrigerator if advised on the label, and discard after the recommended number of days
• Keep out of reach of children
• Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU

• Are allergic to penicillin antibiotics or any ingredient in this medicine
• Have had jaundice or liver problems after taking amoxycillin or clavulanic acid before
• Have a history of severe allergic reaction to cephalosporin antibiotics, unless your doctor advises otherwise

TELL YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE STARTING IF YOU

• Have kidney or liver disease
• Are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding
• Have glandular fever (infectious mononucleosis)
• Are on a low-sodium or low-sugar diet, as some formulations may contain these
• Have had allergies or asthma in the past

MEDICINES THAT CAN INTERACT

• Methotrexate, as this medicine can increase its levels in the body
• Blood thinners such as warfarin, as bleeding risk may increase
• Allopurinol, which may increase the chance of skin rash
• Oral contraceptive pills, as effectiveness may be reduced
• Probenecid, which can increase amoxycillin levels in the blood
