Uses and Benefits of NATRISE TABLET (Tolvaptan 15mg)

Tolvaptan is mainly used to correct low sodium levels in the blood and to manage certain kidney conditions.

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Treating hyponatremia (low blood sodium) due to conditions like SIADH, heart failure, or liver cirrhosis
• Slowing the loss of kidney function in adults with autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD) who are at risk of rapid progression

HOW IT WORKS

• Blocks vasopressin V2 receptors in the kidney
• This reduces water reabsorption, causing the body to pass more water without losing much salt
• This helps raise blood sodium levels and in ADPKD reduces cyst growth

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• Not used for general dehydration
• Not a treatment for high blood pressure
• Not used for routine fluid retention or swelling unrelated to the above conditions
• Not for use in emergency or very severe hyponatremia requiring hospital-based correction without close monitoring
• Not to be self-started without a doctor's supervision, as it needs monitoring of blood sodium and liver function

COMMON SIDE EFFECTS

• Increased thirst
• Dry mouth
• Frequent urination
• Weakness or tiredness
• Constipation

LESS COMMON SIDE EFFECTS

• Dizziness
• Nausea
• Increased blood sugar levels
• Dry skin
• Loss of appetite

SERIOUS SIDE EFFECTS — STOP AND SEE A DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY

• Yellowing of skin or eyes, dark urine, or severe tiredness (signs of liver damage)
• Very fast rise in sodium levels causing confusion, seizures, or difficulty speaking (osmotic demyelination)
• Signs of severe dehydration such as fainting, very low urine output, or rapid heartbeat
• Severe allergic reaction with rash, swelling of face/throat, or breathing difficulty
• Unusual bleeding or bruising

How to Use NATRISE TABLET (Tolvaptan 15mg)

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually once daily in the morning
• Can be taken with or without food
• Do not restrict fluid intake unless your doctor tells you to; drink water when thirsty since this medicine increases urination
• Do not take a double dose or change the dose on your own
• Your doctor may start treatment in a hospital setting to monitor sodium levels closely, especially at the start

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• Take it as soon as you remember on the same day
• If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one and continue as usual
• Do not double the dose to make up for a missed one
• If you miss doses often, inform your doctor

STORAGE

• Store at room temperature, away from direct heat and moisture
• Keep in the original pack away from sunlight
• Keep out of reach of children
• Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU

• Are unable to sense or respond to thirst
• Have very low blood volume or are dehydrated
• Have very high potassium or sodium levels that need urgent correction
• Have severe liver disease
• Are pregnant or breastfeeding
• Are allergic to tolvaptan or similar medicines

TELL YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE STARTING IF YOU

• Have any liver problems
• Have diabetes, as it can affect blood sugar
• Have kidney problems other than ADPKD
• Are taking diuretics or other blood pressure medicines
• Are planning surgery or have any bleeding disorders

MEDICINES THAT CAN INTERACT

• Ketoconazole and other strong CYP3A4 inhibitors
• Rifampicin and other CYP3A4 inducers
• Other diuretics or blood pressure lowering medicines
• Potassium supplements or potassium-sparing medicines
• Digoxin and certain heart medicines
