Nicorandil 10mg is mainly used to treat and prevent episodes of angina (chest pain) caused by reduced blood flow to the heart muscle.

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Prevention of angina attacks
• Long-term management of chronic stable angina
• Reducing frequency of chest pain episodes in coronary artery disease

HOW IT WORKS

• Opens potassium channels in blood vessel walls
• Relaxes and widens both arteries and veins
• Reduces the workload on the heart
• Improves blood and oxygen supply to the heart muscle

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• Not used to relieve a sudden, ongoing heart attack
• Not a painkiller for general body pain
• Not used to treat high blood pressure alone

COMMON SIDE EFFECTS

• Sudden severe headache or fainting

• Severe chest pain that does not improve

How to Use NICOSTAR OD 10MG TABLET (NICORANDIL 10MG)

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually twice a day
• Swallow the tablet with water
• Can be taken with or without food
• Do not stop suddenly without consulting your doctor, as this may worsen angina
• Continue taking it regularly even if you feel well, unless advised otherwise

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• Take it as soon as you remember

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU

• Are allergic to nicorandil or any ingredient in the tablet
• Have low blood pressure or are in cardiogenic shock
• Have fluid in the lungs (pulmonary oedema) or left ventricular failure with low filling pressure
• Are taking medicines for erectile dysfunction (like sildenafil) at the same time

TELL YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE STARTING IF YOU

• Have low blood volume or are dehydrated
• Have a history of stomach or intestinal ulcers
• Are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding
• Have kidney or liver problems
