Nicorandil 20mg is used mainly for the treatment and prevention of angina (chest pain due to heart disease).

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Long-term prevention of angina attacks
• Relief of chest pain caused by coronary artery disease
• Used alone or along with other heart medicines

HOW IT WORKS

• Relaxes and widens blood vessels, including those supplying the heart
• Reduces the workload on the heart by lowering resistance in blood vessels
• Improves blood and oxygen supply to the heart muscle

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• Not used for sudden, severe heart attacks
• Not a painkiller for general body pain
• Not used to treat high blood pressure as a primary treatment
• Not a substitute for emergency treatment during a heart attack

COMMON SIDE EFFECTS

• Headache, especially when starting treatment
• Dizziness
• Flushing (warmth or redness of face)
• Nausea

LESS COMMON SIDE EFFECTS

• Vomiting
• Weakness

• Low blood pressure on standing up

SERIOUS SIDE EFFECTS — STOP AND SEE A DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY

• Mouth, tongue, skin, or eye ulcers that do not heal
• Severe fall in blood pressure with fainting
• Signs of severe allergic reaction such as swelling of face, lips, or throat, and difficulty breathing
• Chest pain that worsens or does not go away with rest

How to Use NIKORAN OD 20MG TABLET (NICORANDIL 20MG)

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually twice a day
• Swallow the tablet with water; do not crush or chew it
• Can be taken with or without food, as advised by your doctor
• Take it at the same times every day to maintain steady levels in the body
• Do not stop taking it suddenly without talking to your doctor, as this may worsen chest pain

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• Take it as soon as you remember
• If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one and continue as usual
• Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one

STORAGE

• Store at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and moisture
• Keep out of reach of children
• Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU

• Have very low blood pressure
• Have had a recent severe heart failure with low fluid levels (cardiogenic shock)
• Are allergic to nicorandil or any of its ingredients
• Are taking medicines for erectile dysfunction (like sildenafil) at the same time

TELL YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE STARTING IF YOU

• Have low blood volume or are dehydrated
• Have liver or kidney problems
• Are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding
• Have a history of stomach, mouth, or eye ulcers

MEDICINES THAT CAN INTERACT

• Medicines for erectile dysfunction (sildenafil, tadalafil, and similar)
• Other blood pressure–lowering medicines
• Medicines that cause blood vessel widening
• Diuretics (water tablets), as they may lower blood pressure further
