Nitazoxanide 200mg is mainly used to treat infections of the intestine caused by certain parasites, and sometimes certain viral infections that cause diarrhoea.

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Treatment of diarrhoea caused by Giardia lamblia
• Treatment of diarrhoea caused by Cryptosporidium parvum
• Sometimes used for other parasitic gut infections as advised by the doctor
• Occasionally used in viral gastroenteritis under medical supervision

HOW IT WORKS

• It interferes with an enzyme-dependent process that parasites and some viruses need to survive and multiply
• This stops the parasite or virus from growing further, allowing the body to clear the infection
• It works mainly in the gut, which helps in treating intestinal infections effectively

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• It is not used for bacterial diarrhoea unless specifically advised
