Uses and Benefits of NOVAMOX DROP (AMOXYCILLIN 100MG)

This medicine is used to treat infections caused by bacteria that are sensitive to amoxycillin.

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Throat and ear infections
• Chest infections such as bronchitis and pneumonia
• Urinary tract infections
• Skin and soft tissue infections
• Dental infections
• Sometimes combined with other medicines to treat stomach ulcers caused by H. pylori bacteria

HOW IT WORKS

• Amoxycillin belongs to the penicillin group of antibiotics
• It works by stopping bacteria from building their protective outer wall
• This weakens and kills the bacteria, helping clear the infection

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• It does not work against viral infections like cold, flu, or COVID-19
• It is not effective against infections caused by bacteria resistant to penicillin
• It should not be used to self-treat fever or cough without a doctor's advice

COMMON SIDE EFFECTS

• Nausea
• Diarrhoea
• Vomiting
• Skin rash

LESS COMMON SIDE EFFECTS

• Indigestion
• Headache
• Vaginal itching or discharge (due to fungal overgrowth)
• Change in taste

SERIOUS SIDE EFFECTS — STOP AND SEE A DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY

• Severe allergic reaction with swelling of face, lips, throat, or difficulty breathing
• Severe skin reaction with blistering or peeling
• Severe or bloody diarrhoea that does not stop
• Yellowing of skin or eyes (jaundice)
• Unusual bleeding or bruising
• Fits or seizures

How to Use NOVAMOX DROP (AMOXYCILLIN 100MG)

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, in the dose and frequency advised
• Can be taken with or without food, but taking it with food may reduce stomach upset
• Swallow tablets/capsules with a glass of water; shake syrup well before use
• Complete the full course even if you feel better before finishing it
• Do not stop early as this can lead to antibiotic resistance

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• Take the missed dose as soon as you remember
• If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one and continue as usual
• Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one

STORAGE

• Store at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and moisture
• Keep reconstituted syrup in a refrigerator if advised by the pharmacist, and discard after the recommended number of days
• Keep all medicines out of reach of children
• Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU

• Are allergic to amoxycillin, penicillin, or any other antibiotics
• Have had a severe allergic reaction to any beta-lactam antibiotic in the past

TELL YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE STARTING IF YOU

• Have kidney disease
• Have a history of liver problems
• Have glandular fever (infectious mononucleosis)
• Are pregnant or breastfeeding
• Have a known history of allergies or asthma

MEDICINES THAT CAN INTERACT

• Blood thinners such as warfarin
• Methotrexate
• Allopurinol
• Other antibiotics
• Oral contraceptive pills (effectiveness may be reduced)
