Uses and Benefits of OLSERTAIN H 40MG TABLET (HYDROCHLOROTHIAZIDE 12.5MG + OLMESARTAN MEDOXOMIL 40MG)

This combination medicine is mainly used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults who need more than one medicine to control it.

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Controlling high blood pressure
• Reducing risk of heart attack, stroke and kidney problems linked to long-term high blood pressure
• Used when a single blood pressure medicine is not enough

HOW IT WORKS

• Olmesartan blocks a hormone (angiotensin II) that tightens blood vessels, helping them relax and widen
• Hydrochlorothiazide is a diuretic (water pill) that helps kidneys remove extra salt and water from the body
• Together they reduce the pressure inside blood vessels more effectively

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• Not used for emergency treatment of very high blood pressure crisis
• Not used to treat heart failure alone
• Not a painkiller or fever medicine
• Not for use in pregnancy to control blood pressure
• Not a first-choice medicine for newly diagnosed mild hypertension unless doctor decides combination is needed

COMMON SIDE EFFECTS

• Dizziness

• Diarrhoea
• Back pain
• Blurred vision

SERIOUS SIDE EFFECTS — STOP AND SEE A DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY

• Swelling of face, lips, tongue or throat with difficulty breathing (allergic reaction)
• Severe dizziness or fainting
• Very low urine output or signs of kidney problems
• Severe watery diarrhoea with weight loss (rare intestinal problem)
• Signs of high potassium such as irregular heartbeat or muscle weakness
• Yellowing of skin or eyes (liver problem)
• Severe skin rash or peeling skin

How to Use OLSERTAIN H 40MG TABLET (HYDROCHLOROTHIAZIDE 12.5MG + OLMESARTAN MEDOXOMIL 40MG)

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually once a day
• Can be taken with or without food, but try to take it at the same time each day
• Swallow the tablet with water; do not crush or chew unless advised
• Do not stop suddenly without talking to your doctor, even if you feel well
• Continue taking it regularly even if blood pressure feels controlled

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• Take it as soon as you remember on the same day
• If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose
• Do not take two doses together to make up for a missed one
• If you miss doses often, set a reminder or ask your pharmacist for tips

STORAGE

• Store at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and moisture
• Keep in original packaging until ready to use
• Keep out of reach of children and pets
• Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU

• Are pregnant or planning pregnancy
• Are breastfeeding
• Have a known allergy to olmesartan, hydrochlorothiazide, or sulfonamide-related drugs
• Have severe kidney disease or are unable to pass urine
• Have diabetes and are also taking a medicine containing aliskiren

TELL YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE STARTING IF YOU

• Have kidney or liver disease
• Have diabetes
• Have gout or high uric acid levels
• Have had recent severe vomiting or diarrhoea (risk of dehydration)
• Are on a salt-restricted or low-potassium diet

• Other blood pressure medicines including ACE inhibitors or aliskiren
• Potassium supplements or potassium-sparing diuretics
• Lithium
• Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) like ibuprofen
• Certain diabetes medicines
• Cholesterol-binding resins
