• Severe allergic reaction such as swelling of face, lips, throat, or difficulty breathing
• Black or bloody stools, or vomiting blood

How to Use OSTEOFOS 35MG TABLET (ALENDRONIC ACID 35MG)

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Take this medicine exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually once a week on the same day
• Swallow the tablet whole with a full glass of plain water, first thing in the morning before any food, drink, or other medicine
• Do not lie down for at least 30 minutes after taking it; sit or stand upright
• Do not crush or chew the tablet
• Wait at least 30 minutes before eating breakfast or taking other medicines

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• If you miss your weekly dose, take it the next morning after you remember
• Do not take two doses on the same day or close together
• Then go back to taking it on your originally chosen day of the week

STORAGE

• Store at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and moisture
• Keep out of reach of children
• Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU

• Are allergic to alendronic acid or any bisphosphonate
• Have certain oesophagus problems that delay emptying, such as stricture or achalasia
• Cannot stand or sit upright for at least 30 minutes
• Have low blood calcium levels that have not been corrected

TELL YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE STARTING IF YOU

• Have kidney disease
• Have any dental problems or are planning dental surgery
• Have swallowing difficulties or acid reflux disease
• Are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding
• Have low vitamin D or calcium levels

MEDICINES THAT CAN INTERACT

• Calcium, iron, or magnesium supplements and antacids (space out timing)
• Aspirin or other NSAIDs (increased risk of stomach irritation)
• Other bisphosphonates
• Any other oral medicine, since food and drugs can block absorption if taken too close to this medicine
