Uses and Benefits of PANTOTAB 40MG INJECTION (PANTOPRAZOLE 40MG)

Pantoprazole 40mg is used to treat conditions caused by excess stomach acid.

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and heartburn
• Stomach and duodenal ulcers
• Erosive esophagitis (inflammation of the food pipe due to acid)
• Conditions where the stomach makes too much acid, such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome
• Along with antibiotics, to help treat H. pylori infection
• Prevention of ulcers caused by long-term use of painkillers (NSAIDs)

HOW IT WORKS

• Blocks the acid pump in the stomach lining cells
• Reduces the amount of acid released into the stomach
• Helps relieve symptoms and allows healing of acid-damaged tissue

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• Not a painkiller and does not relieve pain directly
• Not used for immediate relief of sudden acid reflux (works over time, not instantly)
• Not a treatment for infections unless combined with antibiotics as directed
• Not meant for casual, non-prescribed long-term use without medical supervision

• Unusual tiredness, muscle spasms, or irregular heartbeat (signs of low magnesium)
• Yellowing of skin or eyes, dark urine (signs of liver problems)
• Signs of severe skin reaction: blistering, peeling skin
• Bone fractures with long-term use

How to Use PANTOTAB 40MG INJECTION (PANTOPRAZOLE 40MG)

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor
• Usually taken once daily, before a meal, preferably in the morning
• Swallow the tablet whole with water; do not crush or chew it
• Do not stop the medicine suddenly without consulting your doctor, even if you feel better
• Continue for the full duration advised, especially if used with antibiotics for H. pylori

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• Take it as soon as you remember
• If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose
• Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one
• If you miss doses often, set a reminder or consult your doctor

STORAGE

• Store at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and moisture
• Keep in the original packaging until use
• Keep out of reach and sight of children
• Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU

• Are allergic to pantoprazole or other PPIs
• Are taking medicines containing rilpivirine (used for HIV)

TELL YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE STARTING IF YOU

• Have liver disease
• Have osteoporosis or a history of bone fractures
• Have low magnesium levels or are on medicines that lower magnesium
• Are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding
• Are due to undergo an endoscopy or other stomach tests soon
• Have been on this medicine for a very long time without review

MEDICINES THAT CAN INTERACT

• Blood thinners such as warfarin
• Antifungal medicines like ketoconazole
• HIV medicines such as atazanavir or rilpivirine
• Methotrexate (used for arthritis or cancer)
• Certain medicines for osteoporosis
