Uses and Benefits of PRASITA 5MG TABLET (PRASUGREL 5MG)

Prasugrel is used to prevent blood clots in people who have had a heart attack or who have undergone procedures to open blocked arteries of the heart.

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Preventing heart attack, stroke, or clot-related death in people with acute coronary syndrome
• Preventing clot formation after angioplasty/stenting of heart arteries
• Usually given along with aspirin as combined antiplatelet therapy

HOW IT WORKS

• It blocks a receptor on blood platelets called P2Y12
• This stops platelets from sticking together and forming clots
• Reduced clotting lowers the chance of blocked arteries and repeat heart events

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• Not used for routine pain relief or fever
• Not a treatment for high blood pressure or cholesterol on its own
• Not recommended for people who have not had a qualifying heart event or procedure
• Not to be used to stop an active, uncontrolled bleed

COMMON SIDE EFFECTS

• Vomiting blood or coffee-ground like material
• Prolonged or uncontrolled bleeding from any site
• Signs of stroke such as sudden weakness, slurred speech, or confusion
• Severe allergic reaction with swelling of face/throat, rash, or difficulty breathing
• Unusual tiredness with pale skin, which may indicate a blood disorder

How to Use PRASITA 5MG TABLET (PRASUGREL 5MG)

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually once a day
• Can be taken with or without food
• Swallow the tablet whole with water; do not crush unless advised
• Often prescribed together with aspirin — take both as instructed
• Do not stop taking it suddenly without consulting your doctor, especially if you have a stent

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• Take it as soon as you remember on the same day
• If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one
• Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one
• If you miss doses often, discuss a reminder plan with your doctor

STORAGE

• Store at room temperature, away from heat and moisture

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU

• Are allergic to prasugrel or any ingredient in the tablet
• Have active bleeding, such as a stomach ulcer or bleeding in the brain
• Have had a previous stroke or mini-stroke (TIA)
• Have severe liver disease
