Cefprozil is used to treat bacterial infections in different parts of the body.
WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR
- Respiratory tract infections such as bronchitis
- Sinus infections
- Throat and tonsil infections caused by bacteria
- Ear infections
- Skin and soft tissue infections
HOW IT WORKS
- It belongs to a class of antibiotics called cephalosporins
- It stops bacteria from building their protective outer wall
- Without this wall, the bacteria cannot survive and the infection clears
WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR
- Viral infections such as common cold or flu
- Infections caused by fungi
- As a general pain reliever or fever medicine on its own
- Preventing infections unless specifically advised by your doctor

- Signs of severe allergic reaction such as swelling of face, lips, throat, or difficulty breathing
- Severe or watery diarrhoea that does not stop, which may indicate a serious intestinal infection
- Yellowing of skin or eyes, dark urine, which may indicate liver problems
- Severe skin reaction with blistering or peeling
- Unusual bleeding or bruising

How to Use REFZIL O 250MG SYRUP (CEFPROZIL)
HOW TO TAKE IT
- Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually as tablets or liquid suspension
- Can be taken with or without food, but taking it with food may reduce stomach upset
- Shake the liquid suspension well before measuring the dose
- Use the measuring cup or spoon provided, not a regular kitchen spoon
- Complete the full course of treatment even if you feel better, unless your doctor tells you to stop
- Take doses at evenly spaced times as advised
IF YOU MISS A DOSE
- Take it as soon as you remember
- If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one and continue as scheduled
- Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one
STORAGE
- Store tablets at room temperature, away from heat and moisture
- Keep the liquid suspension in the refrigerator if instructed on the label, and discard any unused portion after the period mentioned on the pack
- Keep all medicines out of reach of children
- Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU
- Are allergic to cefprozil or other cephalosporin antibiotics
- Have had a severe allergic reaction to penicillin antibiotics in the past, unless your doctor advises otherwise
TELL YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE STARTING IF YOU
- Have kidney disease
- Have a history of stomach or intestinal disease, especially colitis
- Are pregnant or planning to become pregnant
- Are breastfeeding
- Have any known drug allergies
MEDICINES THAT CAN INTERACT
- Blood thinners such as warfarin, as it may increase bleeding risk
- Probenecid, which can increase the levels of cefprozil in the body
- Other antibiotics, unless prescribed together by your doctor
- Oral contraceptive pills, as effectiveness may be reduced during antibiotic use

Can I stop taking it once I feel better?
No, complete the full course as prescribed even if symptoms improve, to prevent the infection from returning or becoming resistant to treatment.
Can I drink alcohol while taking this medicine?
It is best to avoid alcohol as it may increase stomach side effects and does not help recovery.
Is it safe for children?
- Cefprozil can be used in children in a dose and form decided by the doctor, so always follow the pediatrician's specific instructions.
