Rivaroxaban 5mg is used to prevent and treat blood clots that can block blood vessels and cause serious problems like stroke or heart attack.

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Prevention of stroke and blood clots in people with atrial fibrillation (irregular heartbeat)
• Treatment of deep vein thrombosis (DVT)
• Treatment of pulmonary embolism (PE)
• Prevention of blood clots after knee or hip replacement surgery
• Reducing risk of clotting in certain heart and blood vessel conditions, as advised by a doctor

HOW IT WORKS

• Rivaroxaban blocks a clotting factor called Factor Xa in the blood
• This reduces the blood's ability to form clots
• It helps prevent existing clots from getting bigger and lowers the risk of new clots forming

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• It is not a painkiller and does not treat pain or swelling directly

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, at the same time each day

• Some doses need to be taken with food to help the body absorb the medicine properly — follow your doctor's specific instructions
• Do not stop taking this medicine suddenly without talking to your doctor, as this can increase the risk of clotting
• Continue taking it for as long as your doctor recommends, even if you feel well

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• Take the missed dose as soon as you remember on the same day
• If you miss a whole day, do not double the dose the next day unless your doctor advises so
• Contact your doctor if you are unsure what to do after missing a dose
