Uses and Benefits of RUPANEX M TABLET (RUPATADINE 10MG + MONTELUKAST 10MG)

This combination medicine is mainly used to treat allergic rhinitis (seasonal or year-round) and to help control symptoms of chronic urticaria (hives), especially when a single antihistamine is not enough.

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Relief of sneezing, runny nose, nasal itching and congestion caused by allergies
• Relief of itchy, watery eyes associated with allergic rhinitis
• Reducing itching and swelling in chronic hives
• Add-on control of allergy symptoms not fully relieved by a single antihistamine

HOW IT WORKS

• Rupatadine blocks histamine, a chemical released during allergic reactions that causes itching, sneezing and swelling
• Montelukast blocks leukotrienes, another set of chemicals that cause airway and nasal inflammation
• Together they reduce both the immediate and ongoing allergic inflammation

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• It is not a treatment for bacterial or viral infections
• It is not meant for sudden, severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis)
• It is not a first-choice reliever for an acute asthma attack
• It should not be used as a general painkiller or fever medicine

COMMON SIDE EFFECTS

• Drowsiness or sleepiness
• Headache
• Dry mouth
• Tiredness or fatigue
• Nausea

LESS COMMON SIDE EFFECTS

• Dizziness
• Stomach pain or indigestion
• Diarrhoea
• Sore throat or nasal dryness
• Mild rash

SERIOUS SIDE EFFECTS — STOP AND SEE A DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY

• Signs of severe allergic reaction: swelling of face, lips, tongue or throat, difficulty breathing
• Severe skin reactions such as blistering or peeling skin
• Mood changes, agitation, unusual behaviour, or thoughts of self-harm (reported rarely with montelukast)
• Irregular or fast heartbeat
• Yellowing of skin or eyes (sign of liver problems)

How to Use RUPANEX M TABLET (RUPATADINE 10MG + MONTELUKAST 10MG)

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually once daily
• Can be taken with or without food, but try to take it at the same time every day
• Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water; do not crush or chew unless your doctor says it is fine
• Avoid taking with grapefruit juice as it may increase side effects of rupatadine
• Continue taking it for as long as your doctor recommends, even if symptoms improve, especially for chronic conditions

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• Take it as soon as you remember on the same day
• If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one and continue your normal schedule
• Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one

STORAGE

• Store at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and moisture
• Keep out of reach of children
• Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack
• Do not store in the bathroom or near a sink

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU

• Are allergic to rupatadine, montelukast, or any ingredient in the tablet
• Are a child below the age recommended by your doctor for this combination
• Have severe liver impairment without medical supervision

TELL YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE STARTING IF YOU

• Have liver or kidney disease
• Have a heart condition or irregular heartbeat
• Have a history of seizures
• Are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding
• Have a history of depression, mood disorders or self-harm thoughts
• Are elderly, as you may be more sensitive to drowsiness

MEDICINES THAT CAN INTERACT

• Other antihistamines or sedating medicines (may increase drowsiness)
• Ketoconazole, erythromycin and similar drugs that affect liver enzymes
• Phenobarbital, rifampicin, and other enzyme-inducing medicines
• Alcohol, which can increase sedation
• Any other prescription, over-the-counter, or herbal product — always inform your doctor
