Uses and Benefits of Telma Act Tablets (Telmisartan 40mg + Amlodipine 5mg + Chlorthalidone 12.5mg)
This combination medicine is mainly prescribed for the long-term control of high blood pressure (hypertension), especially when a single blood pressure medicine is not enough to keep it under control.
WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR
- Treatment of high blood pressure (hypertension)
- Used when blood pressure is not adequately controlled by one or two medicines alone
- Helps reduce the risk of heart attack, stroke, and kidney problems linked to long-standing high blood pressure
HOW IT WORKS
- Telmisartan blocks a hormone (angiotensin II) that narrows blood vessels, helping vessels relax
- Amlodipine relaxes and widens blood vessels by blocking calcium entry into vessel walls
- Chlorthalidone is a diuretic that helps the kidneys remove excess salt and water, lowering blood volume
- Together, these three actions lower blood pressure more effectively than a single medicine
WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR
- Not used for immediate emergency lowering of dangerously high blood pressure
- Not a first-choice medicine for newly diagnosed, mild hypertension without prior treatment
- Not used to treat chest pain (angina) as a standalone therapy
- Not intended for use in pregnancy or for children
