Uses and Benefits of TENOVATE OINTMENT (CLOBETASOL PROPIONATE 0.05%W/W)
Clobetasol Propionate is used to treat various inflammatory skin conditions where a strong steroid effect is needed.
WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR
- Psoriasis (thick, scaly skin patches)
- Severe eczema and dermatitis that has not responded to milder steroids
- Lichen planus and other resistant inflammatory skin conditions
- Discoid lupus erythematosus affecting the skin
HOW IT WORKS
- It belongs to a group of medicines called corticosteroids
- It reduces inflammation by acting on skin cells and blood vessels
- It suppresses the local immune response that causes redness, swelling and itching
- It helps calm down overactive skin cell turnover seen in conditions like psoriasis
WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR
- It is not used for acne, rosacea or ordinary dry skin
- It is not meant for routine daily moisturising
- It should not be used on the face, groin or armpits unless specifically advised
- It is not a cure for the underlying skin disease; it only controls symptoms
Side Effects of TENOVATE OINTMENT (CLOBETASOL PROPIONATE 0.05%W/W)
COMMON SIDE EFFECTS
- Burning or stinging sensation at the application site
- Dryness or itching of treated skin
- Skin redness
LESS COMMON SIDE EFFECTS
- Thinning of the skin (atrophy)
- Stretch marks (striae)
- Visible small blood vessels on skin
- Change in skin colour at the application site
- Increased hair growth on treated skin
SERIOUS SIDE EFFECTS — STOP AND SEE A DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY
- Severe allergic reaction with swelling of face, lips or throat, or difficulty breathing
- Signs of skin infection such as pus, increasing pain or spreading redness
- Signs of steroid absorption into the body such as unusual weight gain, weakness, or high blood sugar with long-term or excessive use
- Severe skin thinning, ulceration or easy bruising

How to Use TENOVATE OINTMENT (CLOBETASOL PROPIONATE 0.05%W/W)
HOW TO TAKE IT
- Apply a thin layer to the affected skin area only, as prescribed by your doctor
- Wash and dry your hands before and after application (unless hands are the treated area)
- Do not cover the treated area with a bandage unless your doctor tells you to
- Do not use for longer than the duration prescribed, as this medicine is meant for short-term use
- Avoid applying to the face, eyes, groin or broken/infected skin unless specifically directed
- Do not use more often or in larger amounts than prescribed
IF YOU MISS A DOSE
- Apply it as soon as you remember
- If it is almost time for your next application, skip the missed one and continue as usual
- Do not apply extra to make up for a missed dose
STORAGE
- Store at room temperature, away from direct heat and sunlight
- Keep the tube tightly closed
- Keep out of reach of children
- Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU
- Are allergic to clobetasol propionate or any other corticosteroid
- Have a skin infection (bacterial, fungal or viral) at the site that is untreated
- Have acne, rosacea or perioral dermatitis at the application area
- Are advised against it by your doctor for a specific skin condition
TELL YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE STARTING IF YOU
- Are pregnant or breastfeeding
- Need to use it on large areas of skin, on the face, or in skin folds
- Are using it on a child
- Have thin or fragile skin, or diabetes
- Are already using other steroid creams or medicines
MEDICINES THAT CAN INTERACT
- Other topical or oral corticosteroids may increase the risk of side effects
- Inform your doctor about all creams, ointments and medicines you are currently using
