Tofacitinib is used to manage certain long-term autoimmune and inflammatory conditions where the body's immune system attacks its own tissues.
WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR
- Moderate to severe active rheumatoid arthritis
- Active psoriatic arthritis
- Moderate to severe active ulcerative colitis
- Sometimes used for other inflammatory joint conditions as advised by a specialist
HOW IT WORKS
- Blocks enzymes called Janus kinases (JAK1 and JAK3) inside immune cells
- This reduces signals that cause inflammation and joint or gut tissue damage
- Helps reduce pain, swelling, and stiffness over time
- Slows further damage to joints or the intestinal lining
WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR
- Not for common joint pain, muscle strain, or osteoarthritis

HOW TO TAKE IT
- Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually once daily
- Swallow the tablet whole with water; do not crush, split, or chew it
- Can be taken with or without food
- Try to take it at the same time each day to maintain steady levels in the body
- Do not stop or change the dose without consulting your doctor, even if you feel better
IF YOU MISS A DOSE
- Take it as soon as you remember on the same day
