Uses and Benefits of ZOMATRIL-10 1GM (RACECADOTRIL 10MG)

Racecadotril 10mg is mainly used for the treatment of sudden (acute) diarrhoea.

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Treatment of acute diarrhoea in adults and children
• Used along with oral rehydration solution (ORS) to prevent dehydration

HOW IT WORKS

• It reduces the excessive secretion of water and electrolytes into the intestine
• It does not slow down normal gut movement, so it does not cause constipation like some other anti-diarrheal medicines
• It helps in reducing the duration and amount of watery stools

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• Not used for chronic (long-term) diarrhoea
• Not a treatment for the underlying cause of diarrhoea, such as infections
• Not used to treat vomiting alone without diarrhoea
• Not a substitute for fluid and electrolyte replacement (ORS)

COMMON SIDE EFFECTS

• Skin rash
• Headache
• Vomiting

LESS COMMON SIDE EFFECTS

• Drowsiness or tiredness
• Constipation

SERIOUS SIDE EFFECTS — STOP AND SEE A DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY

• Swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat
• Difficulty breathing
• Severe skin reaction such as blistering or peeling
• Signs of severe allergic reaction like hives with dizziness

How to Use ZOMATRIL-10 1GM (RACECADOTRIL 10MG)

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Take this medicine exactly as prescribed by your doctor
• It can be taken with or without food
• Continue drinking oral rehydration solution (ORS) or plenty of fluids along with this medicine
• Swallow the capsule or tablet with water; do not chew unless advised
• Do not use for longer than advised by your doctor, usually only until diarrhoea stops

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• Take it as soon as you remember
• If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one and continue your regular schedule
• Do not take double doses to make up for a missed one

STORAGE

• Store at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and moisture
• Keep out of reach of children
• Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack
• Dispose of unused medicine safely, do not flush it down the drain

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU

• Are allergic to racecadotril or any ingredient in the formulation
• Have chronic diarrhoea or diarrhoea lasting longer than a few days
• Have severe kidney or liver disease without doctor's advice

TELL YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE STARTING IF YOU

• Are pregnant or breastfeeding
• Have any kidney or liver problems
• Are giving this medicine to a young child or infant
• Have blood in stools or high fever along with diarrhoea
• Are taking any other regular medicines

MEDICINES THAT CAN INTERACT

• Other medicines used for diarrhoea or gut motility
• ACE inhibitors used for blood pressure, as combined use may need monitoring
• Any other medicine only after informing your doctor

It is best used together with ORS, as this medicine only reduces fluid loss but does not replace lost fluids and salts.
