Uses and Benefits of ZONISEP 50MG CAPSULE (ZONISAMIDE 50MG)
Zonisamide 50mg is mainly used to treat epilepsy, a condition in which abnormal electrical activity in the brain causes seizures.
WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR
- Used to treat partial (focal) seizures, with or without spread to other parts of the brain
- Often used along with other anti-epileptic medicines when seizures are not fully controlled
- Helps reduce the frequency and severity of seizures over time
HOW IT WORKS
- It stabilises the electrical activity of nerve cells in the brain
- It blocks certain channels (sodium and calcium channels) that cause abnormal, repeated firing of nerve cells
- This reduces the chances of seizures starting or spreading
WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR
- Not used for treating anxiety, depression, or sleep disorders
- Not a painkiller and not used for general body pain or headache
- Not meant for immediate relief during an active seizure episode; it is a preventive, long-term treatment
