Uses and Benefits of ZORNO SUSPENSION (OFLOXACIN + ORNIDAZOLE)
This combination medicine is commonly prescribed for infections where both bacteria and certain parasites/anaerobic organisms are suspected to be involved, especially in the gut, abdomen and pelvic region.
WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR
- Infectious diarrhoea and dysentery
- Intestinal amoebiasis
- Typhoid-like fevers caused by susceptible organisms
- Mixed abdominal and pelvic infections
- Post-surgical gut infections as advised by doctor
HOW IT WORKS
- Ofloxacin is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic that stops bacteria from multiplying by blocking enzymes needed for their DNA replication
- Ornidazole is an antiprotozoal and antibacterial agent that damages the DNA of anaerobic bacteria and protozoa, killing them
- Together they cover a broader range of organisms responsible for mixed infections

- Common cold, flu or viral fever
- Simple viral diarrhoea without infection
- Fungal infections
- Preventive use without doctor's advice
- Long-term self-medication for recurring stomach issues

- Yellowing of skin or eyes
- Irregular heartbeat
- Severe dizziness or fainting

How to Use ZORNO SUSPENSION (OFLOXACIN + ORNIDAZOLE)
HOW TO TAKE IT
- Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually with water
- Can be taken with or after food to reduce stomach upset
- Swallow the tablet whole; do not crush or chew unless advised
- Complete the full course even if you feel better early
- Avoid taking antacids, iron or calcium supplements at the same time; leave a gap of a few hours
- Drink plenty of water during the course
- Avoid excessive sun exposure as this medicine can increase sensitivity to sunlight
IF YOU MISS A DOSE
- Take it as soon as you remember
- If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one
- Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one
- Try to take doses at the same time each day for best effect
STORAGE
- Store at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and moisture
- Keep out of reach of children
- Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack
- Do not store in the bathroom or near a sink

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU
- Are allergic to ofloxacin, ornidazole or other fluoroquinolone/nitroimidazole drugs
- Have a history of tendon problems with quinolone antibiotics
- Have epilepsy or a seizure disorder that is not well controlled
- Are pregnant or breastfeeding, unless specifically advised by your doctor
TELL YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE STARTING IF YOU
- Have kidney or liver disease
- Have a history of nerve problems or neuropathy
- Have heart rhythm problems or are on heart medicines
- Are diabetic
- Have a history of mental illness
- Are elderly, as risk of tendon damage is higher
MEDICINES THAT CAN INTERACT
- Blood thinners like warfarin
- Antacids, iron and calcium/multivitamin supplements
- Other medicines that affect heart rhythm
- Alcohol, which can worsen side effects like dizziness and nausea
- Medicines for diabetes, as blood sugar changes are possible
- Theophylline and certain NSAIDs, which may increase seizure risk
