Amoxycillin + Clavulinic Acid — Uses and Benefits

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR
- Respiratory tract infections such as sinusitis, bronchitis and pneumonia
- Ear, nose and throat infections
- Urinary tract infections
- Skin and soft tissue infections
- Dental infections and abscesses
- Infections after certain surgeries, as advised by the doctor
HOW IT WORKS
- Amoxycillin kills bacteria by stopping them from building their protective cell wall
- Some bacteria produce an enzyme that destroys amoxycillin before it can act
- Clavulanic acid blocks this enzyme, protecting amoxycillin and widening the range of bacteria it can kill
WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR
- Viral infections such as common cold, flu or most sore throats
- Fungal infections
- As a general painkiller or fever medicine
- Preventing infections without a doctor's advice
How to Use Amoxycillin + Clavulinic Acid
HOW TO TAKE IT
- Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, in the strength, frequency and duration advised
- Can be taken with or without food, but taking it with food may reduce stomach upset
- Swallow tablets whole with water; shake syrup well before measuring the dose with the given cup or spoon
- Complete the full course even if you feel better before finishing it
- Do not stop the medicine early as the infection may return or become resistant to treatment
IF YOU MISS A DOSE
- Take the missed dose as soon as you remember
- If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one and continue as scheduled
- Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one
STORAGE
- Store tablets at room temperature, away from heat, light and moisture
- Reconstituted syrup usually needs to be kept in a refrigerator and used within the period mentioned on the label
- Keep out of reach of children
- Discard any unused or expired medicine safely
