Azithromycin 250mg — Uses and Benefits

Azithromycin 250mg is used to treat infections caused by susceptible bacteria affecting different parts of the body.

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

  • Respiratory tract infections such as bronchitis and pneumonia
  • Ear, nose and throat infections
  • Skin and soft tissue infections
  • Sexually transmitted infections caused by certain bacteria
  • Sinus infections

HOW IT WORKS

  • Azithromycin stops bacteria from producing proteins they need to grow and multiply
  • This weakens the bacteria and helps the body's immune system clear the infection
  • It is effective against a wide range of bacteria including some that cause community infections

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

  • Viral infections such as the common cold or flu
  • Fungal infections
  • Infections not caused by bacteria sensitive to azithromycin
  • As a general painkiller or fever reducer

How to Use Azithromycin 250mg

HOW TO TAKE IT

  • Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually once a day
  • Can be taken with or without food, but taking it the same way each day helps consistency
  • Swallow the tablet with a glass of water
  • Complete the full course even if you feel better before finishing it
  • Do not stop early as this can lead to the infection coming back or becoming resistant to treatment
