Ciclopirox 1% is used to treat fungal and yeast infections affecting the skin, scalp, and nails.

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Ringworm infections of the skin (tinea)
• Athlete's foot (tinea pedis)
• Jock itch (tinea cruris)
• Fungal nail infections (onychomycosis) when used as a lacquer
• Certain yeast infections of the skin caused by Candida
• Seborrheic dermatitis of the scalp (in shampoo form)

HOW IT WORKS

• Ciclopirox interferes with the transport of essential nutrients inside fungal cells
• This stops the fungus from growing and multiplying
• It also has some action against bacteria and inflammation, which helps reduce redness and itching

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• Not used for viral infections such as cold sores or warts
• Not effective against bacterial skin infections
• Not meant for internal or oral use
• Not a treatment for hair loss unrelated to fungal or scalp conditions

Always use this medicine only for the condition your doctor has prescribed it for, as different formulations (cream, lacquer, shampoo) are meant for different areas of the body.

How to Use Ciclopirox 1%

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Use only on the skin or nails as advised by your doctor; do not swallow
• Clean and dry the affected area before applying
• Apply a thin layer and gently rub it in, unless using nail lacquer, which should be painted on as directed
• Wash your hands after application unless the hands are the area being treated
• Continue using for the full duration advised by your doctor, even if symptoms improve early
• Do not cover the area with airtight bandages unless told to do so

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• Apply it as soon as you remember
• If it is almost time for the next application, skip the missed one and continue as usual
• Do not apply extra to make up for a missed dose

STORAGE

• Store at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and moisture
• Keep the container tightly closed
• Keep out of reach of children
• Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack

COMMON SIDE EFFECTS

• Mild burning or stinging at the site of application
• Redness or itching of the skin
• Dryness or peeling of the applied area

LESS COMMON SIDE EFFECTS

• Rash near the application site
• Slight discoloration of the nail (when using nail lacquer)
• Skin irritation spreading beyond the treated area

SERIOUS SIDE EFFECTS — STOP AND SEE A DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY

• Severe swelling, blistering, or peeling of the skin
• Signs of an allergic reaction such as difficulty breathing, swelling of the face or throat
• Severe pain or oozing at the application site suggesting worsening infection
