Clopidogrel 75mg — Uses and Benefits
Clopidogrel is prescribed to reduce the risk of serious blood clot related events in people with certain heart and blood vessel conditions.
WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR
- Prevention of heart attack and stroke in people at high risk
- After a recent heart attack, stroke, or diagnosed peripheral artery disease
- After placement of a coronary stent, often combined with another antiplatelet medicine
- Prevention of clot formation in patients with certain heart rhythm or vessel disorders as advised by the doctor
HOW IT WORKS
- Blood platelets are small cells that clump together to form clots
- Clopidogrel blocks a receptor on platelets that triggers clumping
- This makes platelets less sticky, lowering the chance of an artery-blocking clot
- It does not dissolve clots that have already formed
WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR
- It is not a painkiller and does not treat chest pain directly
- It is not used to lower cholesterol or blood pressure
- It is not a substitute for lifestyle changes like diet, exercise, and quitting smoking
- It should not be used casually without a doctor's prescription and monitoring
How to Use Clopidogrel 75mg
HOW TO TAKE IT
- Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually once a day
- Can be taken with or without food, at the same time each day
- Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water; do not crush or chew unless advised
- Do not stop taking it suddenly, especially if you have a stent, without consulting your doctor as this can raise clot risk
- Continue taking it for as long as your doctor recommends, even if you feel well
IF YOU MISS A DOSE
- Take it as soon as you remember on the same day
- If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one
- Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one
- Try to take doses at a consistent time to avoid missing them
STORAGE
- Store at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and moisture
- Keep the strip in its original packaging until use
- Keep out of reach of children
