WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Controlling high blood sugar levels in type 2 diabetes
• Used along with diet and exercise
• Often added when one diabetes medicine alone is not giving enough control

HOW IT WORKS

• Empagliflozin blocks a kidney protein (SGLT2) so extra glucose is removed through urine
• Sitagliptin blocks the DPP-4 enzyme, which raises levels of hormones that help the pancreas release insulin after meals and lower excess sugar production by the liver
• Together they lower blood sugar through two complementary actions

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Genital itching, burning, redness, or foul-smelling discharge suggesting a serious infection
• Fruity breath, nausea, vomiting, confusion (possible diabetic ketoacidosis even with normal sugar)
• Sudden swelling of face, lips, tongue or difficulty breathing (allergic reaction)
• Severe joint pain
• Blistering or peeling skin
