WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Respiratory tract infections such as bronchitis and pneumonia
• Skin and soft tissue infections
• Ear, nose, and throat infections
• Whooping cough and certain sexually transmitted infections
• As an alternative for people allergic to penicillin

HOW IT WORKS

• Erythromycin belongs to a class of antibiotics called macrolides
• It stops bacteria from making the proteins they need to grow and multiply
• This helps the body's immune system clear the infection

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• It does not work against viral infections such as common cold or flu
• It is not effective for infections caused by bacteria resistant to macrolides
• It should not be used to prevent infections unless specifically advised by a doctor
• It is not a painkiller or fever reducer on its own

How to Use Erythromycin 125mg

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor
• Swallow the tablet or capsule with a glass of water
• Can be taken with or without food, but taking with food may reduce stomach upset
• Complete the full course even if you feel better before finishing it
• Take at evenly spaced times each day as advised

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• Take it as soon as you remember
• If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one and continue as usual
• Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one

STORAGE

• Store at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and moisture
• Keep out of reach of children
• If using liquid suspension, check label for whether refrigeration is needed
• Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack

SERIOUS SIDE EFFECTS — STOP AND SEE A DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY

• Yellowing of skin or eyes (jaundice)
• Severe stomach pain
• Irregular or fast heartbeat
• Severe skin reactions such as blistering or peeling
• Signs of allergic reaction such as swelling of face, lips, or throat, or difficulty breathing
• Severe or persistent diarrhoea (may indicate a serious gut infection)

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU
