Fluconazole 150mg — Uses and Benefits
Fluconazole 150mg is commonly used to treat fungal infections caused by yeast (Candida) and other fungi.
WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR
- Vaginal yeast infections (candidiasis)
- Oral thrush and thrush of the throat
- Fungal infections of the skin and nails
- Systemic fungal infections in certain patients
- Prevention of fungal infections in people with weak immunity
HOW IT WORKS
- Fluconazole belongs to a group of medicines called azole antifungals
- It blocks an enzyme that fungi need to build their cell membrane
- This stops the fungus from growing and spreading, allowing the body to clear the infection
WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR
- It does not treat bacterial infections
- It does not treat viral infections such as cold or flu
- It is not a painkiller or general antibiotic
- It should not be used for infections not confirmed or suspected to be fungal
How to Use Fluconazole 150mg
HOW TO TAKE IT
- Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor
- Can be taken with or without food
- Swallow the tablet with a glass of water
- Do not stop the course early even if you feel better, unless advised
- Complete the full course as advised for the infection to clear properly
IF YOU MISS A DOSE
- If it is a single-dose treatment, contact your doctor for guidance
- If on a longer course, take the missed dose as soon as you remember
- If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one
- Do not double the dose to make up for a missed one
