WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• To control blood sugar in adults with type 2 diabetes
• To control blood sugar in adults with type 1 diabetes, usually along with a fast-acting insulin
• Used as part of an overall diabetes care plan including diet and exercise

HOW IT WORKS

• It is a basal (background) insulin that slowly releases insulin over the week
• It helps the body use glucose from food and keeps blood sugar stable between meals and overnight
• Because it is long-acting, it needs to be injected only once a week instead of daily

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• Not used to treat sudden very high blood sugar (diabetic emergencies) that need fast-acting insulin

How to Use Insulin Icodec 700 Units/ml

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Inject under the skin (subcutaneously) in the abdomen, thigh, or upper arm, as shown by your doctor or nurse
• Take it once a week, on the same day each week, as prescribed by your doctor
• Rotate injection sites to avoid skin problems
• Do not inject into a vein or muscle
• Check your blood sugar regularly as advised by your doctor
• Do not change your dose without consulting your doctor

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• If it has been less than 3 days since your missed dose, take it as soon as you remember
• If more than 3 days have passed, skip the missed dose and take the next dose on your regular scheduled day — do not double the dose
• Contact your doctor if you are unsure what to do

STORAGE

• Store unopened pens in a refrigerator, away from the freezer compartment
• Once in use, the pen may be kept at room temperature as per the manufacturer's instructions, away from direct heat and sunlight
• Keep out of reach of children
• Do not use if the solution looks cloudy, discoloured, or has particles

COMMON SIDE EFFECTS

• Skin thickening or pitting at injection site (lipodystrophy) if site is not rotated
• Swelling of hands or feet
• Rash or itching over the body

SERIOUS SIDE EFFECTS — STOP AND SEE A DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY

• Severe hypoglycemia with confusion, seizures, or loss of consciousness
• Signs of a serious allergic reaction — difficulty breathing, swelling of face/lips/tongue, severe rash
• Very fast heartbeat or fainting
• Persistent nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain (could suggest other complications)
