Isosorbide Mononitrate 30mg is a nitrate medicine used to prevent chest pain (angina) caused by coronary heart disease. Isosorbide Mononitrate 30mg — Uses and Benefits

Isosorbide Mononitrate is mainly used for the long-term prevention of angina (chest pain) in people with coronary artery disease.

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

  • Prevention of angina attacks
  • Long-term management of coronary artery disease symptoms
  • Reducing frequency of chest pain episodes

HOW IT WORKS

  • Relaxes and widens blood vessels (veins more than arteries)
  • Reduces the amount of work the heart needs to do
  • Improves blood and oxygen supply to the heart muscle
  • Lowers pressure inside the heart chambers

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

  • It is not used to treat a sudden angina attack that is already happening (fast-acting nitrates are used for that)
  • It is not a painkiller for general body pain
  • It does not treat high blood pressure as a primary indication, though it may lower blood pressure as a side effect
  • It is not used for heart attack emergencies

This medicine is taken regularly to prevent chest pain from occurring, not to treat pain once it has already started. Always follow your doctor's instructions regarding timing, as taking it correctly helps avoid tolerance (reduced effect over time).

How to Use Isosorbide Mononitrate 30mg

HOW TO TAKE IT

  • Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually once or twice a day
  • Swallow the tablet whole with water; do not crush or chew extended-release tablets
  • Try to take it at the same time(s) each day
  • Your doctor may advise a nitrate-free gap during the day to prevent tolerance
  • Do not stop suddenly without consulting your doctor, as this may worsen angina

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

  • Take it as soon as you remember
  • If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose
  • Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one
  • If you miss doses often, speak to your doctor about a reminder plan

STORAGE

  • Store at room temperature, away from direct heat and sunlight
  • Keep in the original container, away from moisture
  • Keep out of reach of children
  • Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack
