Rosuvastatin 40mg — Uses and Benefits

This composition is used mainly to treat high cholesterol and to lower the risk of cardiovascular problems in people at high risk.

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

  • Lowering high levels of bad cholesterol (LDL) and triglycerides in the blood
  • Raising good cholesterol (HDL) levels
  • Reducing risk of heart attack, stroke and other heart-related events in high-risk patients
  • Slowing progression of atherosclerosis (hardening of arteries) when used long term

HOW IT WORKS

  • It blocks an enzyme in the liver called HMG-CoA reductase that is needed to make cholesterol
  • This lowers the amount of cholesterol produced by the liver
  • It also helps the liver remove existing cholesterol from the blood

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

  • It is not a painkiller and does not treat sudden chest pain
  • It is not used for emergency treatment of a heart attack or stroke
  • It does not treat infections or unrelated liver conditions
  • It is not a substitute for diet, exercise or weight control advised by your doctor

How to Use Rosuvastatin 40mg

HOW TO TAKE IT

  • Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually once daily
  • Can be taken with or without food, at a consistent time each day
  • Swallow the tablet whole with water; do not crush or chew unless advised
  • Continue taking it even if you feel well, as cholesterol control needs regular use
  • Do not stop or change the dose without consulting your doctor

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

  • Take it as soon as you remember on the same day
  • If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one and continue as normal
  • Do not take two doses together to make up for a missed one

STORAGE

  • Store at room temperature, away from direct heat, light and moisture
  • Keep in the original pack until it is time to take it
  • Keep out of reach of children and pets
  • Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack
