Uses and Benefits of CRESLAUR 40MG TABLETS (ROSUVASTATIN 40MG)

This composition is used mainly to treat high cholesterol and to lower the risk of cardiovascular problems in people at high risk.

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Lowering high levels of bad cholesterol (LDL) and triglycerides in the blood
• Raising good cholesterol (HDL) levels
• Reducing risk of heart attack, stroke and other heart-related events in high-risk patients
• Slowing progression of atherosclerosis (hardening of arteries) when used long term

HOW IT WORKS

• It blocks an enzyme in the liver called HMG-CoA reductase that is needed to make cholesterol
• This lowers the amount of cholesterol produced by the liver
• It also helps the liver remove existing cholesterol from the blood

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• It is not a painkiller and does not treat sudden chest pain
• It is not used for emergency treatment of a heart attack or stroke
• It does not treat infections or unrelated liver conditions
• It is not a substitute for diet, exercise or weight control advised by your doctor

COMMON SIDE EFFECTS

• Headache
• Muscle aches or pain
• Nausea
• Weakness
• Dizziness

LESS COMMON SIDE EFFECTS

• Constipation or diarrhoea
• Stomach pain
• Sleep disturbances
• Skin rash or itching

SERIOUS SIDE EFFECTS — STOP AND SEE A DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY

• Severe, unexplained muscle pain, tenderness or weakness (possible muscle breakdown)
• Dark or brown coloured urine
• Yellowing of skin or eyes, severe tiredness, or signs of liver problems
• Signs of allergic reaction such as swelling of face/lips/throat, severe rash, or difficulty breathing
• Unusual bleeding or bruising

How to Use CRESLAUR 40MG TABLETS (ROSUVASTATIN 40MG)

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually once daily
• Can be taken with or without food, at a consistent time each day
• Swallow the tablet whole with water; do not crush or chew unless advised
• Continue taking it even if you feel well, as cholesterol control needs regular use
• Do not stop or change the dose without consulting your doctor

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• Take it as soon as you remember on the same day
• If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one and continue as normal
• Do not take two doses together to make up for a missed one

STORAGE

• Store at room temperature, away from direct heat, light and moisture
• Keep in the original pack until it is time to take it
• Keep out of reach of children and pets
• Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU

• Are allergic to rosuvastatin or any other statin
• Have active liver disease
• Are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding
• Are taking certain other medicines your doctor has advised against combining with this

TELL YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE STARTING IF YOU

• Have kidney disease
• Have a history of liver problems or drink alcohol heavily
• Have a history of muscle problems
• Have an underactive thyroid
• Are of Asian origin, as a lower dose may be needed
• Take any other prescription, over-the-counter, or herbal medicines

MEDICINES THAT CAN INTERACT

• Blood thinners such as warfarin
• Certain antibiotics and antifungal medicines
• Ciclosporin and other immunosuppressants
• Other cholesterol-lowering medicines like fibrates
• Certain antacids containing aluminium or magnesium
• Some HIV medicines
