• Managing cholesterol along with diet and lifestyle changes

HOW IT WORKS

• Blocks an enzyme (HMG-CoA reductase) in the liver that is needed to make cholesterol
• This lowers the amount of cholesterol produced by the liver
• Helps the body remove cholesterol already present in the blood

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• Not a painkiller or immediate treatment for chest pain
• Not used to treat acute heart attack or stroke
• Not a substitute for diet, exercise, and other heart-healthy habits
• Not meant for weight loss

How to Use Simvastatin 10 mg

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually once daily in the evening
• Can be taken with or without food
• Swallow the tablet whole with water; do not crush or chew unless advised
• Avoid large quantities of grapefruit juice while on this medicine
• Continue taking it regularly even if you feel well, as cholesterol control needs continued treatment
• Do not stop suddenly without consulting your doctor

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• Take it as soon as you remember on the same day
• If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one
• Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one

STORAGE

• Store at room temperature, away from heat and moisture

• Keep out of reach of children
• Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack

• Unexplained muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness, especially with fever or dark urine (possible muscle breakdown)
• Yellowing of skin or eyes, dark urine, severe fatigue (possible liver problem)
• Signs of allergic reaction such as swelling of face/lips/throat, difficulty breathing, severe rash
• Severe stomach pain
