WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Treatment of urinary tract infections (UTIs)
• Prevention of recurrent UTIs in some patients, as advised by the doctor
• Sometimes used along with other medicines for respiratory tract infections

HOW IT WORKS

• Blocks an enzyme bacteria need to make folic acid
• Without folic acid, bacteria cannot grow and multiply
• This helps the body's immune system clear the infection

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• Not effective against viral infections like flu or common cold
• Not used for fungal infections
• Not a treatment for pain relief
• Should not be used for infections it is not prescribed for, as it may not work and can increase resistance

How to Use Trimethoprim 200mg

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually once or twice a day
• Can be taken with or without food, but taking with food may reduce stomach upset
• Swallow the tablet with a glass of water
• Complete the full course even if you feel better, unless your doctor tells you to stop
• Try to take it at the same time each day

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• Take it as soon as you remember
• If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one
• Do not take two doses together to make up for a missed dose

STORAGE

• Store at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and moisture
• Keep out of reach of children
• Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack
• Do not store in the bathroom or near a sink

• Metallic taste in mouth

SERIOUS SIDE EFFECTS — STOP AND SEE A DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY

• Severe skin rash, blistering, or peeling skin
• Yellowing of skin or eyes (jaundice)
• Unusual bleeding or bruising
• Signs of low blood cell counts such as fever, sore throat, or unusual tiredness
• Difficulty breathing, swelling of face or throat (allergic reaction)
• Severe or persistent diarrhea

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU
