Uses and Benefits of BACSTOL 200MG TABLET (TRIMETHOPRIM 200MG)
Trimethoprim is an antibiotic used to treat certain bacterial infections, most commonly infections of the urinary tract.
WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR
- Treatment of urinary tract infections (UTIs)
- Prevention of recurrent UTIs in some patients, as advised by the doctor
- Sometimes used along with other medicines for respiratory tract infections
HOW IT WORKS
- Blocks an enzyme bacteria need to make folic acid
- Without folic acid, bacteria cannot grow and multiply
- This helps the body's immune system clear the infection
WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR
- Not effective against viral infections like flu or common cold
- Not used for fungal infections
- Not a treatment for pain relief
- Should not be used for infections it is not prescribed for, as it may not work and can increase resistance

How to Use BACSTOL 200MG TABLET (TRIMETHOPRIM 200MG)
HOW TO TAKE IT
- Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually once or twice a day
- Can be taken with or without food, but taking with food may reduce stomach upset
- Swallow the tablet with a glass of water
- Complete the full course even if you feel better, unless your doctor tells you to stop
- Try to take it at the same time each day
IF YOU MISS A DOSE
- Take it as soon as you remember
- If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one
- Do not take two doses together to make up for a missed dose
STORAGE
- Store at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and moisture
- Keep out of reach of children
- Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack
- Do not store in the bathroom or near a sink
