Uses and Benefits of STAMLO 10MG TABLET (AMLODIPINE 10MG)

Amlodipine 10mg is prescribed to bring high blood pressure under control and to prevent angina attacks. In most patients it is a step up from the 5mg strength rather than a starting dose.

WHY THE 10MG STRENGTH IS USED

• Prescribed when 5mg once daily has not brought blood pressure to target
• 10mg is normally the maximum usual daily dose of amlodipine in adults
• Used for angina when a higher dose is needed to prevent chest pain
• Your doctor may instead add a second medicine rather than doubling the dose

HOW IT WORKS

• Blocks calcium from entering the muscle cells in the walls of blood vessels
• Relaxes and widens those vessels so blood flows with less resistance
• Lowers the pressure the heart has to pump against
• Reduces the heart's demand for oxygen, which is what prevents angina

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• Not for bringing a high reading down quickly — it is a daily preventive medicine
• Not a treatment for a heart attack or sudden severe chest pain

COMMON SIDE EFFECTS

• Swelling of the ankles, feet or lower legs — clearly more common at 10mg than at 5mg
• Headache, especially during the first week
• Flushing, or a feeling of warmth in the face
• Dizziness or light-headedness, particularly on standing up quickly
• Tiredness

LESS COMMON SIDE EFFECTS

• Palpitations (a fast or thumping heartbeat)
• Nausea or abdominal discomfort
• Muscle cramps
• Disturbed sleep or mood changes
• Swollen or tender gums

SERIOUS SIDE EFFECTS — STOP AND SEE A DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY

• Fainting, or dizziness severe enough to make you unsteady
• Chest pain that is new, worse, or does not settle
• A very fast, very slow or irregular heartbeat
• Rash, swelling of the face, lips or tongue, or difficulty breathing
• Yellowing of the skin or eyes

Ankle swelling with amlodipine is dose related. Tell your doctor rather than stopping the tablet yourself — a lower dose or a different combination usually solves it. This is not a complete list; report any unusual or persistent symptom to your doctor or pharmacist.

How to Use STAMLO 10MG TABLET (AMLODIPINE 10MG)

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Take one 10mg tablet once a day, exactly as prescribed
• It can be taken with or without food
• Swallow it whole with a glass of water
• Fix the same time every day — morning or evening both work, the consistency matters more
• The full effect builds over one to two weeks, so do not judge it after two days
• Never stop on your own because the readings have become normal

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• Take it as soon as you remember on the same day
• If the next dose is nearly due, skip the missed one
• Never take two 10mg tablets together to make up for a missed dose
• If you miss doses often, ask your doctor about a fixed-dose combination

STORAGE

• Store at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and moisture
• Keep out of reach of children
• Do not store it in the bathroom or near a sink
• Check the expiry date before use and discard expired tablets safely

This is a prescription-only medicine in India and should be taken only under medical supervision.

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU

• Are allergic to amlodipine or to any other calcium channel blocker
• Have very low blood pressure, or are in shock
• Have severe narrowing of the aortic valve
• Have had a heart attack within the last month, unless your doctor says otherwise
• Are pregnant or breastfeeding, unless specifically advised by your doctor

TELL YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE STARTING IF YOU

• Have liver disease — this dose is often too high to start with and is raised slowly
• Have heart failure
• Are elderly, as dizziness and falls are more likely at the higher dose
• Already take other blood pressure medicines, including combination tablets
• Had troublesome ankle swelling on the 5mg dose in the past

MEDICINES THAT CAN INTERACT

• Simvastatin — its dose is usually limited to 20mg a day when taken with amlodipine
• Other blood pressure lowering medicines, and nitrates used for angina
• Certain antifungal and antiviral medicines, such as ketoconazole and ritonavir
• Clarithromycin, and grapefruit juice — both can raise amlodipine levels in the blood

Why has my doctor doubled my dose from 5mg to 10mg?

Because 5mg did not bring your blood pressure to the target; 10mg is the usual next step and is normally the maximum daily dose.

My ankles have started swelling since the dose was increased — should I stop the tablet?

Do not stop on your own. This is the commonest dose-related effect of amlodipine, and your doctor can lower the dose or change to a combination that avoids it.

Can I take it at night instead of in the morning?

• Yes. Taking it at the same time every day is what matters; tell your doctor if you feel dizzy in the mornings.
