Uses and Benefits of ACITROM 0.5MG TABLET (ACENOCOUMAROL (0.5MG))

Acenocoumarol is mainly used to prevent and treat conditions caused by unwanted blood clot formation.

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Prevention of blood clots in veins (deep vein thrombosis)
• Treatment and prevention of pulmonary embolism
• Prevention of stroke and clots in people with atrial fibrillation
• Prevention of clots in people with artificial heart valves
• Prevention of clots after certain heart attacks

HOW IT WORKS

• Blocks the liver's use of vitamin K needed to make certain clotting factors
• This slows down the blood's ability to clot
• Effect takes a few days to build up and a few days to wear off
• Regular blood tests (INR) are used to keep the effect within a safe range

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• Not used for immediate emergency clot dissolving (it is not a clot-buster)
• Not a painkiller and does not treat pain or inflammation
• Not used for minor cuts or scrapes
• Not a substitute for other treatments unless your doctor says so

COMMON SIDE EFFECTS

• Easy bruising
• Minor bleeding from gums while brushing
• Nosebleeds
• Prolonged bleeding from small cuts

• Hair loss
• Nausea or loss of appetite
• Skin rash or itching
• Diarrhoea

SERIOUS SIDE EFFECTS — STOP AND SEE A DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY

• Blood in urine or stool, or black tarry stools
• Vomiting blood or coffee-ground material
• Severe or unusual headache, confusion, weakness on one side (signs of bleeding in the brain)
• Heavy or unusual bruising, or bleeding that will not stop
• Skin turning purple, painful patches (rare skin necrosis)
• Yellowing of skin or eyes
• Signs of allergic reaction such as swelling of face, lips, throat, or difficulty breathing

How to Use ACITROM 0.5MG TABLET (ACENOCOUMAROL (0.5MG))

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually once a day
• Take it at the same time every day for consistent effect
• Can be taken with or without food, but be consistent
• Do not change the dose yourself, even if you feel fine
• Regular blood tests (INR) are essential to keep the dose right
• Keep a record of your dose changes and INR results
• Avoid sudden large changes in diet, especially green leafy vegetables, without informing your doctor

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• Take it as soon as you remember on the same day
• If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose
• Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one
• Inform your doctor if you miss doses often

• Store at room temperature, away from heat and moisture
• Keep in the original container, away from light
• Keep out of reach of children

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU
