Uses and Benefits of ACITROM 3MG TABLET (ACENOCOUMAROL (3MG))

Acenocoumarol is prescribed to prevent and treat conditions caused by unwanted blood clot formation.

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Prevention of blood clots in people with certain heart valve replacements
• Treatment and prevention of deep vein thrombosis (DVT)
• Prevention of clots travelling to the lungs (pulmonary embolism)
• Reducing stroke risk in people with atrial fibrillation (irregular heart rhythm)
• Prevention of clot formation after certain heart or vascular conditions, as advised by your doctor

HOW IT WORKS

• It blocks the liver's use of vitamin K, which is needed to make clotting factors
• This reduces the blood's ability to clot too easily
• It does not dissolve existing clots but prevents new ones from forming or growing
• Effect takes a few days to develop fully and needs regular monitoring through a blood test called INR

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• It is not a painkiller and does not treat pain or inflammation
• It is not used to dissolve an existing large clot quickly (that needs other emergency treatment)
• It is not for short-term or occasional use for minor conditions
• It should not be self-started without a doctor's prescription and monitoring plan

COMMON SIDE EFFECTS

• Easy bruising

• Nausea or loss of appetite
• Diarrhoea

SERIOUS SIDE EFFECTS — STOP AND SEE A DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY

• Blood in urine or stools, or black tarry stools
• Unusual or heavy bleeding that does not stop
• Vomiting blood or coffee-ground material
• Sudden severe headache, confusion, weakness, or vision changes (possible bleeding in the brain)
• Severe skin reaction, purple patches, or skin necrosis
• Yellowing of skin or eyes
• Heavy or prolonged menstrual bleeding

How to Use ACITROM 3MG TABLET (ACENOCOUMAROL (3MG))

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, at the same time every day
• It can be taken with or without food, but be consistent with your routine
• Do not change the dose yourself, even if you feel fine
• Regular blood tests (INR) are needed to check that the dose is right for you
• Keep all follow-up appointments so your doctor can adjust the dose safely
• Avoid sudden large changes in your diet, especially green leafy vegetables, without informing your doctor

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• Take it as soon as you remember on the same day
• If you remember only the next day, skip the missed dose and continue your normal schedule
• Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one
• Inform your doctor if you miss more than one dose

STORAGE

• Store at room temperature, away from direct heat, light, and moisture
• Keep out of reach of children
• Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack
• Keep in the original container with the label intact

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU
