Uses and Benefits of ADIURETIN 0.1MG TABLET (DESMOPRESSIN 0.1MG)

Desmopressin is used mainly to manage conditions related to fluid balance and certain bleeding disorders.

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Treating diabetes insipidus (a condition where the body passes too much urine)
• Reducing bedwetting (nocturnal enuresis) in children and adults
• Managing certain bleeding disorders like mild haemophilia A and von Willebrand disease
• Testing kidney concentrating ability in some diagnostic procedures

HOW IT WORKS

• It mimics the natural hormone vasopressin, which helps the kidneys reduce water loss in urine
• It also helps release clotting factors stored in blood vessel walls, improving clotting in certain bleeding disorders

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• It is not used for general urinary tract infections
• It is not a treatment for high blood pressure
• It is not meant for weight loss or general fatigue
• It is not used to treat severe haemophilia or major surgical bleeding without specialist guidance

COMMON SIDE EFFECTS

• Headache

LESS COMMON SIDE EFFECTS

• Flushing of the face
• Mild swelling of hands or feet
• Sleep disturbance
• Nasal congestion (if using nasal form)

SERIOUS SIDE EFFECTS — STOP AND SEE A DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY

• Severe headache with confusion or drowsiness (signs of low sodium levels)
• Seizures
• Severe swelling or sudden weight gain
• Very reduced urine output
• Signs of allergic reaction such as rash, swelling of face/throat, or difficulty breathing

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Take this medicine exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually at the same time(s) each day
• It can be taken with or without food unless your doctor advises otherwise
• Do not increase or decrease the dose on your own
• Limit fluid intake around the time of dosing if your doctor has advised this, to avoid excess water retention

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• Take it as soon as you remember
• If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one and continue your normal schedule
• Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one

STORAGE

• Store at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and moisture
• Keep out of reach of children
• Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack
• Follow any special storage instructions given by your pharmacist

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU

• Are allergic to desmopressin or any of its ingredients

• Have moderate to severe kidney disease
• Have low blood sodium levels
